同じ年代の子を持つ親として、また海外での生活経験も多少ある者として、我が子と同じくらいの年齢の女性を、英語が多少できるからと言って普通の生活もしたことがない皇族の方が、知人もいなくてそして治安もあまりよくない所に、よく行かせられるものだ、と思うのです。結婚しての赴任と言っても旦那は、まだ仕事さえこの先どうなるかもわかりません。日本での騒動でPDSDを発病するくらいの繊細な心のこの女性に、昼間一人で異国の都会の小部屋に、ずっと一人でいられるのかどうかも私は心配です。でも彼女の親父さんは、嫁に出したら後は旦那の責任とばかりに好きにさせていますから、まずはやりたいように二人でやらせてみよう、というお考えなのではないかとも思えます。

秋篠宮ご夫妻の長女、眞子さまと小室圭さんは２６日の結婚後に渡米、小室さんの勤務先があるニューヨークで生活される見通しだ。
小室さんが就職した弁護士事務所のホームページによると、小室さんは現在、法務助手として勤務。年末にニューヨーク州の司法試験の結果が公表され、合格すれば弁護士として勤務するとみられる。米法曹界の雇用情報を扱う専門組織「ＮＡＬＰ」によると、１年目の弁護士の平均年収は１月時点で１６万５千ドル（約１８００万円）という。
だが、家賃や物価は日本の都心より高額だ。米国の不動産会社「リロ・リダック」の岡畠（おかはた）伸江シニアマネジャーによると、ニューヨーク中心部でセキュリティーが充実した１ＬＤＫの物件では、月に５千ドル（約５６万円）が必要になるという。岡畠氏は「これ以上値段を下げると質の良い物件が少ない上、パンデミックから日常に戻りつつある現在は家賃相場も上昇傾向にある」と話す。
また、ニューヨーク在住の３０代の男性会社員は物価について「食材は東京の１・５倍、レストランでの食事は２倍近くかかる」と話す。近年、アジア人に対する犯罪が増えているといい、安全を重視して公共交通機関の利用を避けると交通費も高額となる。
眞子さまは国際基督教大在学中に学芸員の資格を取得し、東京大学総合研究博物館に約５年半勤務された。２回の英国留学で英語も堪能なため、現地で就職して生活を支えられる可能性もある。
